My 2gb pst will not open in outlook 2007, why is it so ?
I cannot access the PST files in Outlook 2007, previously I was using Outlook 2002 and as the chances of it getting corrupted because of increase in size above 2 GB was always at peak I decided to use Outlook 2007. But, I don’t understand why it is not getting opened. It says “unable to display folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the specified folder location. I did so to avoid problems but it has happened just opposite, more problems with my 2GB PST file, what should I do now?
You should always convert PST to Outlook 2007, if you are moving from lower version of Outlook to Outlook 2007. It is because Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 store data in Unicode format different from that of outlook 2002 which supports ANSI format and has 2 GB capacity. This difference of file format creates problem and this is happening here as result your Outlook 2002 PST files cannot be opened in Outlook.
But have you moved the PST file following the process described below this problem would not have arised
- Start Outlook 2002
- From file menu – data file management – add
- Click Outlook 2007 and then OK
- Specify the name of the PST file or the default PST file will be selected by clicking on OK
- Again click on OK and close the file
- From the bottom of the navigation pane click on folder list
- Now you can see the new.pst file in the navigation pane (the one you selected above)
- Drag the PST file from existing Outlook 2002 to new PST file created in Outlook 2007.
Another way, in using convert PST to outlook 2007 software that first changes file format of PST into Outlook 2007 supported file format.
