Why Outlook 2007 very slow in responding and how to fix this problem ?

My outlook 2007 used on windows XP professional with 4 GB RAM and dual processor is running very slow. Either I have to open email or reply to one it almost takes 40 seconds. Even for deleting number of files one after another, also more than usual time it takes for highlighting the email I select. It appears as if it is sleepy mode and after several seconds it is able to carry out the task specified. Although I have not faced this problem with other software I am using.

It is quite true that Microsoft office outlook sometimes stop working during reading, writing, moving or deleting email messages. Besides that overtime it becomes slow in performance, as the file size increases nearly to 2 GB and more particularly found in PST file of size 4GB or above. Such slow performance of outlook is because outlook 2007 has introduced new data structure for PST and OST file, in which the frequency of writing data to the hard disk increases as the number of items in the file increases.

For correcting this issue Microsoft provides an update, that does the following-

  • Reduces time required for copying and moving messages
  • Reduces time required to delete message
  • Increases message downloading speed

For more information about the update you can visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933493/

On the other for resolving slow performance of Outlook you need to split oversized PST files using safe and efficient tools known as Outlook 2007 PST splitter software that split PST files in a way such that they can be used independently.
