Unable to find outlook 2000 version of the scanpst.exe, can any body help me in finding this out and provide me the details on how to use it ?
I have been using Microsoft office outlook 2000 for sending and receiving email and yesterday I noticed some problem in it as I could not delete or download email, it said error detected in the file. Today it failed to open with an error message saying that “cannot start Microsoft office outlook. Cannot open the outlook window.the set of folders cannot be opened.” Errors have been detected in the file.C:\\outlook.pst. Quit outlook and all mail enabled applications, and then use inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about the inbox repair tool, see help”. But this seems not to be the solution of my problem rather more confusing as I could not find outlook 2000 version of the scanpst.exe, and I just don’t know how it is used. So, any help would be grateful.
You must be aware about the inbuilt outlook repair tool known as inbox repair tool or scanpst.exe. Since, there is some sort of corruption related problem in outlook and because of this it is not able function properly. It is directing you to use scanpst.exe which will scan and repair any inconsistencies so found. But before that you need to find it and this might not be that much easy as its location varies for different editions of Windows OS as well as different versions of outlook. For Outlook 2000 on Windows XP you can find it in C:\\ Program files\\Microsoft office\\office12\\scanpst.exe
Usually the scanpst.exe is a hidden file and you may not find it simply, until you enable “show hidden files and folders”. Now you can run the tool by clicking it twice and browsing for selecting the location of the outlook data file to be repaired from “C:\\users\\<Account name>\\appdata\\local\\microsoft\\outlook”. Click on start for initiating the repair process, which takes variable time as per the data file size. Once scan is completed, it will ask you to click on repair and once you do this repair is completed and outlook will open normally.
But, chances are there that scanpst.exe could not repair it, usually for severely corrupted PST files which require the use of Outlook 2007 repair software, which does more extensive scan of the damaged PST file and store the PST file data into a new file.
